PMM Today - July 2025 - Zoe Chin loy

In this exclusive interview, Zoe opens up about how she got started, what body positivity means to her, and the moment a crop top became a symbol of radical self-love. Plus, she shares a few surprises… like her love for country music and a children’s book launching this summer.

How did you get started in the self-love and lifestyle blogging world?

I started sharing my story because I didn’t see enough women who looked like me showing up confidently. It began with an impulsive post of my stretch marks… and from that moment on, I realized that more women looked like me than I thought. What began as a vulnerable post turned into a space for connection, healing, and empowerment. Over time, my content naturally evolved into lifestyle and fashion, but at its core, it’s always been about self-love, representation, and taking up space unapologetically.

How would you describe your voice or role within the curvy/plus-size community?

I’d say my voice is rooted in realness and joy. I’m not here to preach perfection… I’m about those in-between moments, the learning, the laughter, and the glow-up. I represent plus-size women who love themselves but are still figuring some things out. My content is a reminder that softness and strength can exist in the same space.

What challenges have you faced, if any, as a curvy or plus-size content creator, and how have you overcome them?

There have definitely been moments where I felt boxed in… like brands only wanted a certain “type” of plus-size look, or I had to either shrink or be the loudest in the room to be heard. I overcame that by staying consistent in my voice and trusting my community. I create for people who get it, and those who don’t will eventually catch up.

As a mom, how do you balance motherhood and your career as a content creator?

Whew, balance is a daily practice! I try to be fully present in whatever moment I’m in. Some days that means scheduling content during nap time, and other days the camera catches real-life chaos. I remind myself often that my kids don’t need perfection, they need a present and happy mom. I make space for both.

What does being body positive mean to you personally?

To me, body positivity is about acceptance, not just on the good days when you feel cute, but also on the rough days when you don’t. It’s choosing not to punish or shrink yourself to fit someone else’s ideal. It’s about making room for joy, pleasure, and peace in the body you’re in right now.

How do you stay inspired and continue creating content that resonates with your audience?

I stay inspired by listening to the women in my community. I draw from my culture, music, motherhood, and everyday life. I’m always asking myself, “What do I wish someone would’ve told me?” and I let that guide my content.

What advice would you give to someone struggling with self-love and body confidence?

Start with small acts of kindness toward yourself. You don’t have to love every inch of your body to show it care. Wear the outfit. Take the photo. Speak kindly to yourself. The confidence comes after the action, not before. And follow people who uplift you, not those who make you second-guess your worth.

Who or what has influenced your self-love journey the most?

Honestly, motherhood has been a huge influence. Raising daughters, especially, made me check myself. I couldn’t tell them to love themselves if I wasn’t modeling that behavior.

What has been one of your proudest moments in your career so far?

There have been many, but one standout moment was when a young girl messaged me and said, “Because of you, I wore the crop top.” That’s it. That’s the whole mission, helping someone reclaim joy in their own skin. Also… being on the cover of PLUS Model Magazine! I mean, come on, that was huge!

What are 5 Things Most People Don’t Know About You?

  1. I have a soft spot for country music… it’s probably what I listen to the most.
  2. I love spicy food… the hotter, the better.
  3. hate tardiness. It’s my biggest pet peeve.
  4. I’m writing a children’s book called “J is for Jamaica”, an alphabet book highlighting the beauty of Jamaica. Launching in August on Amazon!
  5. I may seem extroverted online, but I really value quiet, solo time to recharge.
